The Great Gatsby is conversationally called among the great American novels, while it comprised about called Trimalchio in West Egg, manifestly. Weren’t certain it would have been quite so successful had F. Scott Fitzgerald’s preferred title gone to print (“It’s about some foreign bloke in an egg?”). Anyway, it’s a story of degeneration, criminal conversation, law-breaking, honey, female person linksmen and domicile getting overflow, which has certainly captured the imaginativeness of many. And I-Play’s Hebei that they can turn the text into the great American hidden object adventure.

The idea is that Classic Adventures: The Great Gatsby tells the story of the novel, through cut-scenes and the main hidden object scenes. These work in the usual manner for this type of adventure - there’s a list of objects to find, and you’ve got to scour the screen, spot them and click on them. Each object is worth points, and clicking too much or randomly will prompt the game to dock your score, and freeze the mouse pointer for a bit to punish your impatient naughtiness. Bad player.

Altogether the object blobbing aspects are absorbed from the book, and with every few items with success placed, the game trots out a piece of conversation between parts to further the plot. It’s an interesting idea which works improving to a point, although the cold hard reality is that the summarised scenes and dialogue are necessarily bitty. If you’re not acquainted Fitzgerald’s story, it skips a lot of stuff and doesn’t always make a huge amount of sense. The general vibe is there, though, and the core events give you a fair sense of this adulterous roller-coaster of a tale. The original text is employed, too, complete with some enjoyable Fitzgerald penned description.

In conditions of the factual covered object auto-mechanics, there’s no timer the player is pitted against as with some of these adventures. The hint button, which can be clicked on to highlight an object you can’t find, is the only element of the game which employs a timer, in so much as it takes 90 seconds to cool down before you can use it again. However, there are also hidden letters in the scenes, which spell out a word related to the theme of a chapter. If you can guess this, a much quicker hint cool down is unlocked as a bonus.

As always, some objectives are placed in smartly masked or camouflaged offices, but there aren’t too many familiarities taken. There were only a few occasions where we felt we’d been cheated by the developer melding an object too much into its surroundings; the baguette which looked incisively like a chair leg comes to mind (we await the table completed of a croissant in the next classic adventure).

If you are able to avoid applying hints, then accomplishments can be unsecured, which are came in as rather bright prizes in your library room. This screen of retreat and reflection can also be decorated by dropping the points scored in the game. There are various articles of furniture which can be bought, or new open fireplace surrounds and rugs that can smarten up the environment. Even pets can be bought, albeit static ones, although at least that means there’s no danger of the cat clawing your expensive velvety drapes to assembles. The library is a welcome extra touch, and your trophy room achievements can be shared with friends via Facebook, as the game can be hooked up to the social networking site.

All the same, contempt some mattering to ideas, The Great Gatsby gets a grind go through after a while. It uses some of the same scenes and objects repeatedly, which doesn’t help in the variety stakes. Admittedly the game has a few neat ideas up its sleeve, such as a level where you’re driving along and have to spot objects distributing the pavement as well as inside the car. There’s also a neat scene at a party, where you’ve drunk too much and can’t focus properly, so everything is blurred save for a narrow cone of vision. Sadly there’s no hidden toilet to search for to throw up in (or failing that, at a pinch, Gatsby’s fedora). While these different episodes were enjoyable, there aren’t many of them, and we’d like to have seen more.

The Great Gatsby scatters some mini-games between levels too, and some of these are reasonably entertaining. There are several speed typing challenges, for example, and a sliding picture puzzle. However, other mini-games fall flat, and many involve rather dull and simple tasks which merely extend the hidden object searching mechanics: “You need to make a drink for Gatsby - locate the gin bottle, then the shaker, then the olives, and then…”

At first sight the Danamics LMX Superleggera appears as if a established central processing unit more coolheaded, even so appearings are misleading.

Yes, it’s big, digesting 170mm heights and yes, it’s heavy at 1.2kg, but we’re acquainted the idea that a big more coolheaded is a good way of dealing with an overclocked CPU. What sets the LMX Superleggera apart from the competition is the technology that Danamics uses to transfer heat from the CPU base plate to the finned body of the cooler. Although those five 6mm heatpipes look like every other heatpipe you’ve ever seen, they process a completely different principle.

Even heatpipes arrest liquid that vaporises and condenses in a continuous cycle that moves heat from the hot CPU to the body of the cooler which is, um, cooler. Danamics has filled the heatpipes with a liquid metal sodium-potassium alloy that is actively pumped around a cooling circuit by the Power Booster 2 unit. This is a hefty finned aluminium item that is installed in a 3.5-inch drive bay and which connects electrically to the LMX Superleggera cooler and also to the power supply of your PC.

We had in the beginning destined to test the Danamics cooler on a toasty Core i7 system, as we had an Intel DX58SO CPU board on the test bench, but we ran into an insoluble problem. The Intel motherboard has the power regularisation computer hardware arranged in an arc around the central processing unit socket, which means that the Danamics mounting brackets cannot be installed. In fairness to Danamics, the Intel layout differs from every other motherboard that we have seen, but there’s no avoiding the fact that this is a problem.

With happiness we’d also been furnished with a set of AMD mounting brackets, so we were able to switch to an Asus Crosshair III Formula motherboard along with a Phenom II X4 965 CPU. We were lucky to have both AMD and Intel mounts, as the £99 cost of the LMX Superleggera cooler only includes one type of mount, which you need to specify when you place your order.

Installation the base plate for the Danamics was straightforward and we were then able to clamp the cooler solidly in place. The final part of the installation is to snap one or two 120mm fans into place, however they’re not included in the package so it’s your choice whether you choose fixed speed fans or variable PWM items.

Purchasing the lovers is expected to add £20 to the cost of the cooler and the cost coulded as very much like £40 if you choose high-end units. This makes the LMX Superleggera pretty darned expensive.

The pump in the cooler operates on an electromagnetic principle so there are no moving parts, however there is a faint electrical noise that suggests a transformer is working inside the Power Booster 2 unit.we’d great hopes for the LMX Superleggera and hoped that the combination of novel applied science and massive price would deliver something exceptional, but this was not the case.

While the Danamics had no trouble keeping our Phenom II X4 965 CPU under control at its stock speed of 3.4GHz and also overclocked to 3.74GHz, the performance was no better than a regular air cooler. Both the Akasa Venom and Coolink Corator DS kept the CPU five to ten degrees cooler than the Danamics gave notice they’re also substantially cheesier.

They are summer and the enduring is comfortable, so what you want when you’re becoming on vacation is a photographic camera that’s going to meet all the bare-knuckled that irregular beach vacation is likely to throw at you. Fujifilm’s FinePix XP10 is designated to be just that craggy fun-time companion, but does it really match up to all the hype?

Whenever you want your photographic camera to look cool, then it certainly has style with its asymmetrical sloping curves, striking metallic light-blue or silver casing and massive XP logo on the front. It feelings reassuringly hearty in the hand yet its bundle properties (95.6 x 63.8 x 23.2mm and 135g weight) mean that the XP10 will slip into a back pocket or swimming shorts without trouble.

Wherefore acknowledgment floating shorts? Well, the main selling point for this camera is its list of rugged credentials. You can take it into the ocean to a depth of three metres, drop it on the floor from a height of one metre, drag it through the snow to -10 degrees and marvel as dust refuses to settle upon it. So we plunged it into the bottom of a fish tank, moved it in with the frozen peas, bounced it off the (admittedly padded) carpet and emptied the vacuum articles on top of it and still the XP10 continued to function as normal. The fish were traumatised, though.

Now, while the camera does have a certain chic appeal, there are design issues that raise serious questions. For instance, why have the lens so high up in the left corner where it’s more likely that your finger will stray into shot? Why have the USB connector squeezed into the battery/SD compartment when it could have been housed on the side? Why put the tripod mount bottom left and why make the zoom control buttons so jerky?

These exterior issues aside, you’re furnished with 12-megapixel resolution for detailed snaps and the Fujinon 5x telephoto lens (36-180mm equivalent) controls from within the photographic camera dead body for added protection. The LCD display is slightly smaller than average at 2.7-inch but the 230,000 pixels ensure the preview images are bright and vivid and you can cram up to 100 thumbnail images into the frame ready for playback.

You are able to record 720p HD video at 30fps and, as is becoming more and more plain in the compact market, there’s a dedicated instant video button on the back. The menus are clear and easy to scroll through using the D-pad, and as well as the usual Face Detection, Scene Recognition and Digital Image Stabilisation features, Fuji has chucked up the sponge some intriguing new elements.

These include Easy Web Upload which first tags your photos and videos and then uploads them to Facebook and YouTube via the supplied software, Target Focus for tracking moving objects, and in-camera Movie Editing which can turn your holiday images into black & white or sepia.

Characterization quality varied: the best results were underwater and outside in relatively bright conditions. The performance was far less impressive in dim conditions, even with ISO levels up to 1600, with similarly uneven flash images. There’s a fair amount of zoom noise and the AF often took a while to settle in indoor locations. Yet as holiday cameras go, this will undoubtedly prove fashionable outdoor features fans, especially as Jessops is currently doing a promotion on that at a reduced price of £129.

Notebooks span a huge range of sizes and specifications, and choosing what is right for you can be tricky. For business users Hewlett Packard’s notebooks pack a real punch, and if you want something that is robust and solid, as well as offering some superb features, then the not inexpensive EliteBook 8540p might be worth a look.

This is a 15.6-inch screen notebook that offers the unusually high resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels in some models. That is great for viewing two - or even three - documents side by side, and makes this laptop ideal as a desktop replacement machine.

The weight of around 3kg, depending on the iteration you choose, is going to mean you won’t want to carry the notebook often, but when you do there is a solid metal shell to offer protection. A further useful extra for when you are on the move is a pop-out keyboard light above the screen, sitting next to the 2-megapixel webcam. You can even set up an ambient light sensor to automatically backlight the keyboard in darker conditions.
The Hewlett Packard EliteBook 8540p is large enough to have space for a separate number pad on the keyboard and there is a touchpad as well as a pointing stick for moving the cursor around; you can choose whichever is the most comfy to use.

There are a couple of instant-on services you can get to without booting into the full Windows 7 Professional. QuickWeb gives you access, not surprisingly, to the Web, while QuickLook lets you see email, calendar, contacts and tasks. To be honest we can take or leave these features. Windows 7 Professional boots quite quickly thanks to the Core i7 and Core i5 processors that are used and you just never know when you’ll need more than these cut-down services can offer.

You can choose between several configurations of this notebook, with hard drives ranging from 250GB to 350GB and with or without mobile broadband. They all have a couple of USB 3.0 connectors, though, so you are ready for high speed devices when they come along. There are five USB ports in all, two USB 3.0, the rest USB 2.0.

We got two and a half hours of video playback from the 8-cell battery. You probably won’t get a full working day from it, but ought to be able to expect a decent morning’s work.

Swann has built a steady reputation for providing surveillance and security equipment that ranges from high quality CCTV cameras with infra-red night vision through to relatively inexpensive DIY equipment that you can link to your PC or laptop through simple plug and play.

The ThumbCam, as the name suggests, is one of the company’s smallest creations; a pinhole video camera that can record colour AVI video files of 720 x 480 resolution at 30fps. It genuinely is thumb-sized, measuring a minuscule 55 x 20 x 20mm and, as you’d expect from a unit that is designed to be virtually invisible, it only weighs 20g.

Styled in glossy jet black plastic, the camera has on the left side a mode button and a slot for a MicroSD memory card, with a power button and record button on the right, microphone and LED indicators on the top. The box also contains a USB charging cable (which plugs into the base and connects to your computer), a silicon cover and a selection of wall, magnetic and belt brackets.

Swann has targeted the ThumbCam at two separate markets: those who just want to have fun by attaching the camera to a bike or to clothing while doing sports and leisure activities, and security-minded folk who want to perform some (legal) covert surveillance filming.

Realistically, however, it’s more likely that you’ll use this camera for pleasure rather than protection. For a start, the supplied lithium ion battery will only last for one hour before it needs recharging. Also, you have a maximum of 20 minutes recording time per gigabyte. So as you can only upgrade the supplied 2GB card to 8GB, that means you have no more than 160 minutes of continuous recording if the camera is permanently plugged into a PC.

If you do want to use the ThumbCam for surveillance then your best option is to initiate the sound-activation mode which triggers the camera to start recording if a noise is heard for two minutes (and continues if the noise continues). That way you could have up to 10 hours of battery life before recharging. Bearing in mind this is a fixed lens wide-angle camera with a minimum focusing distance of about 30cm, the picture quality is surprisingly sharp, although exposure does struggle in dim conditions.

Date-stamping your videos is possible but annoyingly complicated and will have to be reset if the battery dies while recording. Finally, it’s worth noting that the supplied installation disk will enable you to use the ThumbCam as a webcam if required.
